Ecologically responsible coastal development
Tūmai Beach, OtagoA farm park development at Tūmai Beach farm park, 45 Km north of Dunedin, involves communal replanting of native forest and restoration of an estuary. This private enterprise approach is just the approach needed to get forest back along much of South Island’s coastal fringe.
The Tūmai Environmental Enhancement Plan describes priorities for afforestation and planting oioi (jointed wire rush) in the restored South Arm of Te Hakapupu (Pleasant River Estuary). Progress and opportunities to contribute with planting are reported in the ‘Friends of Tūmai’ Facebook group page.
