Ecologically responsible coastal development

Tūmai Beach, Otago

A farm park development at Tūmai Beach farm park, 45 Km north of Dunedin, involves communal replanting of native forest and restoration of an estuary. This private enterprise approach is just the approach needed to get forest back along much of South Island’s coastal fringe.

A summary of restoration progress and upcoming priorities for afforestation are described in the ‘2024-2026 Tūmai Environmental Enhancement Plan’. Refreshed restortion priorities build on the work programme described in the ‘2021-2023 Tūmai Environmental Enhancement Plan’. Progress and opportunities to contribute with planting are reported in the ‘Friends of Tūmai’ Facebook group page.
